Aspen and Pitkin County Colorado is located
in the west central part of the beautiful Rocky Mountain Region
of the State, in the Colorado River watershed. Its eastern boundary
is the Continental Divide. The Crystal, Roaring Fork and Frying
Pan Rivers flow into Pitkin County from the north: and tributaries
of the Roaring Fork, including Castle and Maroon Creeks, flow
into the southern part of the County. Pitkin County covers an
area of 818.63 square miles with elevations range from 6,625
to 14,259 feet atop Castle Peak.
With a full time population of resident "Aspens" of more than 15,000, and a
high season population of more than 30,000 Aspens, the County
has two primary population centers in the towns of Snowmass
Village Colorado and Aspen Colorado. There are also a number
of rural residential areas that are organized by local caucuses
including Redstone, Thomasville, Old Snowmass, Brush Creek Village,
Owl Creek, Woody Creek and Castle/Maroon Creek Colorado.
Aspen Colorado was indeed fortunate to have
attracted the likes of Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke who saw
the potential of an idealized model of civilization: a place
where physical activity, art, music, and the humanities would
together enrich the spirit and elevate society . This culminated
in the Aspen Idea - the complete person living in a community
that nourished the mind, body, and spirit of its citizens.
The Aspen Colorado community values include:
- Maintain a critical mass of local residents who call this
place home - Nurture social and economic diversity by retaining
a healthy balance among Aspenites, part-time homeowners, working
families, and visitors - Protect local environment and act as
stewards of the land for future generations - Retain and enhance
the quality of life of this special and unique Colorado mountain
valley paradise!
